For a brief period, Stockholm’s Gasverk on Torsgatan will transform into an immersive realm where fine dining meets avant-garde artistry. The event, coined ODDNORM, promises to challenge conventional dining norms, merging innovative cuisine with experiential elements of light, sound, and technology. Spearheaded by Stockholm’s critically acclaimed restaurant Persona, this project aims to create an evening that stretches the imagination and tantalizes the senses, with a creative journey that blends art, food, and technology in seamless harmony.

Pushing Boundaries in Fine Dining

The concept for ODDNORM was born out of a desire to craft an experience that goes far beyond traditional dining. Persona, known for its bold, contemporary approach to cuisine, leads the charge with an unexpected and boundary-pushing menu. According to Jonatan Nyström, Restaurant Manager and co-founder of Persona, the experience is "a modern, challenging, and conceptual dining journey where the unusual takes center stage." The team behind this ephemeral project set out to break away from predictable formulas, pushing diners to experience food, space, and ambiance in ways they’ve never imagined.

This approach required a close collaboration of minds and talents from various creative fields. The seed for ODDNORM was planted when Doubble Space and No Normalcy, two inventive Stockholm-based studios, collaborated at events within Doubble Space. They quickly realized they shared a similar drive to push creative boundaries, transforming routine experiences into the extraordinary.

Crafting an Immersive Environment: From Vision to Reality

With concept firmly in place, the team began working on how to create a multi-sensory experience. Together, Doubble Space—founded by Julia Anjou, a creative director and entrepreneur, and John Scarisbrick, a photographer—and No Normalcy, a concept development studio founded by Karin Ringbäck and Carl Philip Dickman, orchestrated a seamless fusion of gastronomy with sensory stimulation.

The creative process involved imagining how the venue, an old gasworks, could morph into a surreal, living environment. Utilizing cutting-edge light, laser, sound, and projection technologies, they crafted a psychedelic and vibrant ambiance that transports guests into another world. The projections and lights are carefully choreographed to interact with the sounds, creating a dynamic and ever-changing backdrop that mirrors the innovative spirit of the dining experience.

The venue design was far from arbitrary; it was tailored to enhance the meal itself, shifting tones and energies to match each course. This level of detail was integral to the vision of creating an evening where the environment becomes a silent participant in the dining experience, enhancing flavors, emotions, and ambiance.
